Well the last few days have been pretty interesting. The photos I took for my parent’s 25th anniversary present came out quite well in print. I was actually surprised how well the prints came out, and how generally inexpensive getting an 11×14 print in an hour ended up being.

For my birthday, I was lucky enough to have my glasses snap right in half about a block from the house. Obviously I was pissed, but the night was salvaged by Natalie and Diana driving me downtown to meet up with some friends and have some beer. I saved some cash on beer goggles, by way of not having the ability to see straight in the first place…

After jumping through all kinds of hoops, I finally managed to get an eye exam, and a new pair of glasses yesterday. It cost me about $200, but $200 is worth the ability to see, drive, and do things for myself. I celebrated by heading out with Diana and Stefanie. There was line dancing involved, which is scary in itself.

Finally got around to setting up the 5D before I passed out. Definitely a nice setup. I shall greatly enjoy it, for many many years.

Ok so I obviously missed a few days, but that tends to happen during travels. I did post up the photos and such on Flickr, and didn’t miss a day there, but I won’t blog them right now. I’m about to go help my brother get a motorcycle, I spent last night celebrating my sister’s 18th birthday (pics here), and when I get back from the motorcycle bit I’ll be messing with my new photography equipment. Should be fun for sure. I definitely need a case for all this new stuff.

Today I was called out of bed to cut some more video up. It’ll likely be on the news. Fun stuff, only not really. Who will do this while I’m on leave? Thankfully, that’s not my job, or my concern. I’m very ready to fly home.

Day 131 – Anthrax

Yet another day, but one day closer to freedom, and another run of the mill dose of Anthrax to the arm. In my four years, I’ve recieved now 14 shots, of a six shot series followed by an annual booster. Someone obviously can not count, or just flat out doesn’t keep records. Given that I have recieved numerous vaccines far more times than is required (or likely even recommended by sane and respected medical professional in the civilian world), I’ll go ahead and assume the problem is a lack of solid record keeping. Either that, and this will surely appeal to those wearing foil hats, I’m a lab rat for the DoD. Who doesn’t love a juicy conspiracy theory? Personally, I could try to care less, but I probably wouldn’t be successful. With the number of vaccinations I’ve had since moving to Malaysia over a decade ago, I could probably swim butt naked in biological waste without a problem. Once upon a time, I couldn’t donate blood because I didn’t weigh enough for my height (scale had me at 138lbs today, which is interesting). With all the shit I’ve been pumped full of, I don’t forsee being allowed to donate anytime in the next decade.

Getting ready for leave still. Finally tracked down my laundry, which must have a tag that says “please lose for a week” somewhere in the bag. When I do actually go on leave, I’ll miss at least a day of posting, but I’ll keep up with the photos and catch up when I get home. That’s all for now.

Just another day in the desert. Nothing too special, our AC was frozen solid again, and the filter was a complete mess. I took the filter to the shower to knock all the crud out of it, and let the AC suck up some fresh hot Iraqi air to melt all the ice. That all worked out pretty nicely. The weather back home sucks according to the news, I really don’t have good luck in that department.

Things have been pretty slow, and pretty boring. Boring is good, though obviously not exciting at all. B&H has processed my order now, and is getting it ready to ship. Everything should be waiting for me at home when I get there, and that is definitely not boring.

A few days ago I got a funky error code from my Mac while trying to burn a DVD. Apparently this error code is quite common, considering the billion hits on Google.com. Always one to assume the worst, I figured my drive had gone tango uniform on me. Fortunately, I just had a spindle of fake Sony DVDs from our local vendor friend. Once I dug up a real DVD, it burned fine. A busted optical drive would have made me roar rather loudly.

Placed a large order today with B&H. Photography equipment is expensive, lots of it comes to a total that exceeds that of my motorcycle. Here’s to hoping they provide at least as much fun, and hopefully make money as opposed to just giving me a good excuse to go blow it! Time will tell. I have some phone calls to make, so I’m going to attempt to do that shortly. That is all.

So I’m definitely confused about the whole leave thing right now, sometime later in my shift I’ll figure everything out. I spent my fourth mostly at work, though when work was over I did write one kick ass song that makes me laugh. Colby and Phillip should be standing by to help me finish it and record it whenever I do manage to make it home again. As a related note, making sure the Strat has a fresh set of strings standing by is probably a great idea, an extra set of EJ26′s for the AD60CK probably wouldn’t hurt either. We all know how much I hate it when strings are all flat and dull. mmm fresh strings.

I’m going to order some camera stuff now. w00t.
